About Paradosiako
Paradosiako was opened on February 13, 2017, at 199 Papanastasiou Street in the Charilaou district of Thessaloniki by Giorgos Oikonomou. As the name suggests, it is a tsipouradiko with a traditional character, featuring the dishes and tsipouro that Greeks have made an integral part of their lives.
His idea for the place was simple: a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and affordable prices. Somewhere to sit with friends, share a few dishes and take your time over a conversation.
Our roots
The family’s history in food goes back further, to the taverna “O Platanos” in 1969. It is the story Giorgos refers to when speaking about the beginnings of his own place. Paradosiako’s own story began in 2017, at the same address it has occupied ever since.
Before opening the tsipouradiko, Giorgos worked in meat processing. Ingredients and quality are the two things he singles out when describing what matters to him about food.
A place with its own character
Wooden tables, old tools and utensils, photographs, musical instruments and a gramophone fill the room at Paradosiako. Objects from the village sit alongside collectable antiques from different parts of Greece, giving the place its personal character.
Old laïká songs provide the music. Together with the photographs on the walls and the friends gathered around the tables, they are part of the atmosphere you will find here.
Tsipouro, meze and good company
These three things come first at Paradosiako. Starters, salads, fish and seafood, meat dishes, tsipouro or ouzo find their way to the table. Dishes to share and time to talk: that is what a tsipouradiko is about.
There is no need to wait for a special occasion to get together. Food, a drink and the people around the table are reason enough.
The people of Paradosiako
Neighbours, friends, musicians and people from the arts have spent time at our tables. Some of those moments have been captured in photographs. Giorgos puts these visits down to trust in him and in the food.
All these gatherings are part of our story. It continues here in Charilaou, with meze to share and a place at the table. We look forward to welcoming you to Paradosiako.
